The spotlight is very bright....

I have had a rough time this last week with personal opinion. Social media, freedom of speech and a computer to hide behind has made it so easy for people to say whatever they want and feel no remorse. Although it happens everyday to almost anyone who makes the choice to open up their lives on social media, it is really hard to have it happen to your husband. I have learned that stats don't matter, people love to hate the back ups and sports writers too express their biased opinion unrelated to the actual facts from the game. So I would like to share my personal biased opinion based on mostly facts, with some heart mixed in!
My rant continues because no one likes to see the facts and no one really cares unless you win but, if you do here they are.... In the three games Matt has played this year he threw for 714 yards with 4 TD, rushed for 22 yards with a TD, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble. Our defense gave up 1,207 yards and 96 points, in the consecutive 7 games before they hadn't given up but 115 points and held their offense to 1,973 yards! Yes it doesn't matter but I just thought I would share. Yea Matt is 0-4 as a starter with all being against the Calgary but how quickly the Eskimos nation forgets a 4-14 season. True it's easy to say Matt's injury held him back, we would have won with Mike and #1QB is #1 and #2 QB is #2 for a reason but if facts hold true then none of this is valid, it's just opinion. We will never honestly know who would have won the QB battle last year because Matt tore his ACL maybe it would have gone different but any QB that is judged after 5 games is not fair. Just look around the league and think to yourself aren't we pretty lucky to have the backup we have? I'm not discrediting Mike either I believe he is good quarterback, he had his learning year and he is a fearless quarterback with a city behind him. This is his team and no one will take that away from him keep winning, get a to the Grey Cup and stay healthy maybe he can eventually climb out of the huge Ricky Ray shadow that still lingers.

It's Open Season for Football

What a great weekend Matt's mom and sister came to visit,it is always a good time when they come up from California. I got my hair chopped off and NFL started so football is now complete! The weather is starting to change, it is a little too early for me but I do love fall especially in the Pacific Northwest it turns into the most beautiful place to live. Fall also means the switch to hot coffee from Starbucks, scarves & toques and apple flavored everything!

PERSONAL: I would say growing up in my house we had no choice but to have sports be a huge part of our lives. While most kids were told bed time stories I would stand on my bed and sing "Take Me Out To the Ball Game," with my Dad I learned a lot later in life that other people do not do this! (Yes I am carrying it on with Elliot every night!) I started soccer, baseball and dance at age 5 and there was always some sort of sport on the TV.  I think that one of the hardest realities for both parents and for an individual child is when you realize maybe I am not good enough. Although this can be a harsh reality usually more for the parents than the child,it is one discussion I think is forgotten along the way all too often. Only 10% of high school athletes become college athletes of that 10% 1% become professional athletes. So my story of how sports ended for me begins now.
I have two older brothers one was a College baseball player and the other retired from sports in middle school so my standards were set somewhere in the middle of that! For me I tried a little bit of everything and of course I thought I was great because I would make a select soccer team or volleyball team but it took me until my Junior year of high school when I did not make varsity volleyball that I had to say to myself ,"Maybe I am not as good as my dad, my friends or I think I am!" I tried to justify well if I went to another school I could have made it, or that the coach just has favorites but it all came back to me. It was that miserable day in September 2003 I realize my sports days are done. I was ok with it,although it sucked I still remember that feeling of disappointment to my Dad and that embarrassment to everyone else in my family I was supposed to be GREAT I made the club volleyball team since I was 12, I went to all the camps, I practiced at home but it all didn't matter, I didn't have it. I did cheer my senior year and enjoyed dance team my junior year so it wasn't all over just my sports dreams had ended! I do think of dance and cheer as sports in some cases but for me it was more a try and look cute while yelling type of thing! I should also say that I did come out of retirement in college and played some intramural volleyball and it was awesome so the love I had for the sport never died just the thought that I could be playing on team USA did! So now as a mother I have so many hopes and aspirations for Elliot athletically but we will have this talk so both our realities can be let down a little bit easier. Who knows maybe she will be like her father and make to the elite 1%!

SPORTS: What a great week!
CFL- This week was the beginning of the LDC and half way through the season as more and more injuries happen and heal the league is getting shaken up! Matt played great I give him a B+ I would say just a couple not great decisions but besides that it wasn't bad, a few huge penalties,a flat defense and drops killed us. I also felt as if because Mike was still out our offense was more in a lets not lose mind set rather than a lets win attitude! Just let Matty Ice air out a few and move the offense fast that is where he strives! The run game is huge in this league with only 3 downs we have to get more yards on our first possessions. It will be interesting to see if we change that up this game, I think that with a few more long balls,  yards on the ground and our defense back up to speed we can win this weekend. On the other side of the ball is Cornish and he is great very deserving of his title from last year and even though he was out most of this season I think he still might snag the MOP?!  I am excited to watch what happens in the second game rematches this week especially Lulay hoping he still has it!
NFL- WOW, what a boring/exciting start to the NFL depending on if you are a defense or offense loving football watcher! The first half of the Sea vs GB game was awesome exactly what I was hoping for then for the exact reason they won the Super Bowl Seattle's defense took over! Watch out NFC Seattle had a taste of victory and they liked it! Can't wait for Sunday and Monday here we Goooooooo!
US OPEN- I love watching tennis it's such an intense yet proper sport the scoring is still silly to me but the attitude and cockiness of the players I absolutely love! I'm a big Federer fan and his rally back the yesterday to win was awesome to watch, I'm rooting for him in the semis!
MLB- Giants are looking good in the wild card race sitting 3 games ahead , we will see how September plays out!

ELLIOT: This little lady is feeling so much better and is looking forward to seeing her Daddy next week!
